Riders, pillions and 4X4 passengers pull away to begin the adventure
The first day of our riding adventure and time to discover what your brand new BMW GS really feels like on the open road!
After a good breakfast, we meet up outside the hotel to get ready for the first day of proper riding. Your luggage is safely stowed on board our 4X4 support vehicle and after a short recap briefing, riders, pillions and 4X4 passengers pull away to begin the adventure
Looking across False Bay for Southern Right Whales
Watching breeching whales return to their breeding grounds
We leave Cape Town via the renowned Chapman’s Peak Drive and on to the fabulous Cape of Good Hope. Wonderful sweeping sections let you get your first feel of the BMW’s handling. The route frequently overhangs the Atlantic Ocean and offers spectacular views of picturesque bays, long shining white beaches, and plentiful stopping points for photos. All along this coastline, keep an eye out for the sight of a majestic Southern Right whale breeching, as this is the season they return back to their breeding grounds. The lighthouse car park is a great spot to view them from when we stop for lunch at the café
The wildlife theme continues as our coastal ride continues in the afternoon with an optional visit to the Boulders Village Penguin Colony. Established sixteen years ago, this is where the penguins have chosen to take seasonal refuge from the colder conditions further south.
We experience our first stretch of well prepared dirt track
Then we regroup at the Drummond’s Arms Biker’s Bar in the small village of Rooels for refreshment before turning inland to head up to the Lion and Cheetah Reserve. On the way, we experience our first stretch of well prepared dirt track. If this is your first introduction to off road riding, John, your guide, will be available at all times to offer you help and advice should you need it. Just ask!
If you haven’t seen these wonderful animals up close before, it’s an experience you will never forget. The lions are now fully grown so it’s unlikely we can mingle with them, but the cheetahs are a big favourite with everyone and you can get up really close.
We’re off!! Destination Victoria Falls.
The day’s ride ends at our 5* Spa Hotel right on the clifftop overlooking the ocean.
The Spa is top notch and offers plenty of opportunity for pampering before we take you out for a special dinner at a local restaurant, full of character and atmosphere located a short walk from the hotel and nestling in the cliffs.
If weather permits, we’ll start the evening with drinks on the terrace right by the sea where the conversation will be buzzing with impressions of the day and anticipation for the next morning’s whale watching cruise.
