AND THEY'RE OFF!The first leg of Moto Aventures' Sountern Africa Tour with Charley Boorman is under way! The start of a 'once in a lifetime' adventure that will take them across southern Africa.
Set up in 1996 and owned and run by John Griffiths and Su Downham, Moto Aventures was born as the result of an idea John had whilst
spending two winters biking across Africa from London to Cape Town.
Initially organising quality guided off-road tours around the Pyrenees to Portugal and the Mediterranean, in early 1998 they started offering their off-road adventures in the Atlas Mountains & Sahara Desert of Morocco.
Born in Tanzania, John worked for the 16 years prior to Moto Aventures in the oil related diving business. He has paramedic training and experience, and safety (a highly important issue in biking – one which is often not given sufficient attention) is one of his main concerns. John is a very experienced off road rider
Su has lived and worked in Andorra for over 20 years. She speaks English, Spanish, Catalan and French fluently and has considerable experience in tourism and PR, as well as having run her own estate agency and building company in Andorra before Moto Aventures was started.
John is responsible for track finding and checking, plotting the routes for the GPS and setting up the ground work for the tours, while Su is responsible for the admin and legal side of the company, finding and booking tour accommodation etc., and generally making sure that all aspects of the tours run smoothly and efficiently.
In 2007 John & Su decided there was a definite lack of quality touring adventures on bigger bikes, and the Southern Africa Tours were created. After three successful tours they are very excited to announce they have now joined forces with the well known motorbike adventurer Charley Boorman, who will be guiding and entertaining you with anecdotes of his experiences during his travels.
Southern Africa has long been a dream destination for this kind of adventure, especially since the Long Way Down and Long Way Round TV series woke up so many “born again bikers”. If you like to have to put up your own tent in the evenings after a long day in the saddle and take part in the cooking chores etc then this tour is not for you. We are offering quality adventures on touring bikes enabling you to maximise your reason for being there – biking in Africa, combined with relaxing in very pleasant surroundings in the evenings and absolutely no hassles.
Most people dream about doing such a journey but don’t have time for the major logistics needed to organise it so we have arranged these tours for you, to include quality lodge and luxury camp accommodation, combined with asphalt, gravel and dirt tracks, lots to see and the possibility of encountering wild animals, to make this truly Your ultimate biking adventure in style.
